Orange-Chocolate Mousse

People classify food into two kinds: ones that are naughty and ones that are nice. My cousins had a bit of trouble classifying this mousse when I made them try it. It may not be easy to believe but yes guys, it is possible -- decadent treats can be healthy while tasting like sin at the same time! And this orange-infused chocolate pot is only one proof of how we can all enjoy dessert without any ounce of guilt!

Like all my recipes, this one has no need for dairy. I'm happy to announce that it contains no refined sugars too! During my pubescent days, I was such a sugar monster that I'd eat all candies, chocolate bars, ice creams and cakes that anyone offered me. In a way, with my incurable sweet tooth and all, I'd say that I still have that same monster living inside of me, only now I know how to distinguish the right kinds of sugar from the bad ones! Refined sugars and carbs aren't exactly the most friendly to me which is why I stay away from as much as possible. They tend to mess up with my energy and they simply bring me down! And, obviously enough, I don't like feeling down as much as I don't want you to. So here's a sweet treat that I know will treat you right. 

Would you still call it a "cheat meal" if you were to have this for dessert?

Total time: 7 min (plus 1 hour)
Makes 1 cup/4-6 servings


1 avocado
3 tbsp coconut cream
2 tbsp cacao powder
2-3 tbsp (or more *wink*) pure maple syrup
2 1/2 tbsp freshly-squeezed orange juice

orange zest
desiccated coconut
mulberries (optional)


  1. Begin by pitting the avocado and scooping out its flesh.
  2. In a blender, combine the avocado, coconut cream, cacao, maple syrup, and orange juice. Pulse and process until smooth. Make sure to lose all the lumps from the avocado!
  3. Transfer the mousse into serving cups, add toppings and that's it! Pop in the freezer to set for about an hour before serving.
