Banana & Nut Butter Porridge

November 06, 2015
Aren't oat porridges such a dream? They're the quickest, heartiest and yummiest way to power through the day! We all know it; oats are rich in soluble fiber. Because of this, they provide a great deal of health benefits such as reducing the risk of coronary artery disease and lowering cholesterol levels. This also means that they can stay in the stomach longer, making you feel fuller, longer and prevent overeating later in the day. Perfect for those who are trying to lose weight or simply maintaining a healthy one!

The combinations are endless with oatmeals but for me, banana and nut butter is a classic. It's delicious, and it gives me the energy and protein that I need to feel amazing! Some of my other favorite combinations include strawberry-chocolate, mango-ginger, and orange-maple. I might publish a recipe for one of these soon, so stay tuned!

Here's to the best mornings!

Prep time: 5 min
Cook time: 5 min
Total time: 10 min
Serves 1

3/4 cup oats
1 cup water
1 small banana
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp nut butter (I used cashew butter)

for the toppings I used:
banana slices
more cinnamon
more nut butter (!)
cacao nibs
desiccated coconut
maple syrup

  1. Combine the oats, water and cinnamon in a saucepan over low-medium heat.
  2. Chop up the banana into thin coins and then add to the saucepan. Reserve some for toppings.
  3. Once the water is completely hot, stir in nut butter until it dissolves.
  4. Keep stirring to keep the oats from burning or sticking to the pan.
  5. Transfer to a bowl. Top with your favorite toppings!
